Trixie Bet: What is it?

Ever heard of punters talking about the Trixie? Even if you haven’t, this is one of the most popular terms with punters.

A Trixie bet has 3 selections but gives you a full cover on all your picks.  A Trixie allows you to make three selections and then to do all combinations of multiples with your picks. In a Trixie bet, only multiples are placed.

To make this clear, let us pick our three teams. Assume we pick Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. The possible multiples are: Chelsea and Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. (2, 2, 2 and 3 teams respectively).

Trixie as a full cover bet

A Trixie is a full cover bet which provides you with full coverage on all possible combinations when 3 picks are made. The Trixie is a forerunner to the Patent bet, which also gives full cover on 3 picks, but differs slightly from the Trixie.  While the Patent bet also includes three single bets from your three selections, the Trixie only includes the multiples and not singles.

Why place a Trixie bet?

Depending on how much stake you have and your targeted return, a Trixie bet can provide great value. With the Trixie, you are doing some extra bets as opposed to just making three straight singles or one treble. While you don’t have singles in the Trixie, you are able to include 3 doubles and 1 treble. In order for you to earn some sort of return from your Trixie bet, at least two of your selections out of the three must win.

Understanding the nature and benefits of a Trixie bet, together with other multiple full coverage bets, can broaden your betting repertoire immensely. The attraction of a multiple bet such as the Trixie is that it has the potential for higher profit on a relatively low stake.

Trixie bet example

Let us use our three teams mentioned above to illustrate the Trixie bet. Assume Chelsea has odds of 1.50, Arsenal 1.30 and Manchester United 1.70, in a dream scenario in which all your 3 teams win, you will be earning yourself a total of Ksh 1002.50 on a stake of Ksh 400, a profit of Ksh 602.50.

Remember we are not betting on singles here, so your winnings are calculated on winning 3 doubles and 1 tripe bet. But you will still get a huge profit from your little stake.

The calculations are:
Chelsea and Arsenal, 1st double: 1.5 x 1.3 x100, which is 195

Chelsea and Manchester United, 2nd double: 1.5 x 1.7 x 100, which is 255

Arsenal and Manchester United, 3rd double: 1.3 x 1.7 x 100, which is 221

Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, Treble: 1.5 x 1.3 x 1.7 x 100, which is 331.5

Total in case all teams win is Ksh 1002.50.

You should remember that the stake in a Trixie must reflect all the four bets, so you will use four times the value of your stake unit. That is, you will use Ksh 400 instead of Ksh 100, which is the unit stake. Hence, you need to weigh up your potential profit margins in relation to the amount you want to wager before you place a Trixie bet.

Besides, you should remember that a Trixie carries the risk of complete failure should two teams not get your predicted result. Similarly, you will get a lower return should one of the teams lose.

For many punters who play the Trixie, they choose one team with a shorter odd say between 1.30 and 1.60 and other two teams with longer odds say 1.80 to 2.10. Such a selection means that even if one of the three teams fails, you will still earn a substantial chunk of cash on your two winning selections.

Indeed, a multiple full cover bet like the Trixie is often lucrative when played correctly by choosing a banker at lower odds (the team you rely on as the cornerstone of the multiple selections) that is combined with two other long-odd selections. Research your picks well before you do a Trixie.

At Sportszu, we wish you good luck.
